Buick Regal, Volvo S60 Make Consumer Report's Top Upscale List
Consumer Reports magazine is famous for it's lists. While most top (whatever) lists are generally pretty subjective, or quietly related to the amount of advertising dollars a company spends at a magazine, the Consumer Reports lists are honourable. The magazine does not accept advertising, and it conducts it's own rigorous tests in house, giving it's winners a great deal of credibility. The most recent list, of top upscale sedans was just offered up by the magazine for it's September issue. Two new additions, the Buick Regal and Volvo S60 now rank among the top upscale sedan list. Newly refreshed for 2014, the Buick Regal has a new powertrain. It ranked just behind the class-leading BMW 328i, by only one point, but beat out the Cadillac ATS and CTS sedans in road test scores. The Buick Regal tied the Mercedes-Benz C250 for second place in overall rankings. Engineers at the magazine liked the Regal's handling, performance and easy-to-use infotainment system, ranking it above the Volvo S60. It beat the Cadillac ATS and the CTS, which are more in line with it's price range than the 328i by 7 points. More

2014 Buick Regal GS
While fully redesigned in 2011, the 2014 Buick Regal GS has been updated with some fresh cosmetics and some more significant changes- mechanical in inside the cabin. The Buick Regal typically suffers from an image problem. It's an old-person's car. No automaker wants to be saddled with that reputation. Buick is hoping to dispel that notion with some changes to their 2014 model. What you don't normally find on an old-person's car is Brembo brakes. Yep, you read that right, Brembo brakes. The front wheel of the 2014 Buick Regal GS are fitted with the same high-performance brakes found on sports cars. It seems that Buick is trying to boost the performance of the Regal, or at least the illusion of high-performance. The new version has dagger-like air intakes, and fancy new wheels too. Making it appear a little more distinctive, it's got new LED tail lights and chrome accents. More

General Motors has added an all-wheel drive model to their 2014 Buick Regal lineup this year, one that is sure to prove more than capable of handling Canadian road conditions. In fact, it's the same AWD system found in the Buick LaCrosse and in the Cadillac XTS. The 2014 Regal GS AWD is the top of the Regal line, Buick's performance model. It start's at nearly $43,000, and can run you up to $50,000 with the extra bells and whistles. Price alone will set your expectations of the GS high, and it delivers. For those with lower budgets, the AWD is being added to every Regal Turbo model, which means all models except the eAssist mild hybrid, which brings the price of owning a Buick Regal with AWD down to about $35,000, $40,000 for the premium package.
